West Sumatra
Over at West Sumatra, one could visit any of the three districts which are three different natural attractions. The jungles, the beaches and the volcano highlands. Home to the traditional ethnic Minangkabau group, here one can experience nature at its best and taste the very spicy food as well. The Minangkabau’s influence have also spread to the neighboring Malaysian state of Negeri Sembilan. This is a diverse culture where the female takes a patriarchal role as compared to the men. Over at this side of the Sumatra, one could visit Bukit Tinggi a renowned highlands resort around the Padding area. A lot of tourists visit Bukit Tinggi for its lush greenery and scenic landscapes, away from the cities and provide a great relaxation destination.
Scattered around the Malacca Straits is the Riau islands. This place used to one of the busiest trading ports in the past which is also believed to be origins of the Malays and the language as well. Only after the establishment of Malacca as the new trading port due to its strategic location that connects the east and the west did the port here decline in its important.
Over at Jambi, which is at the east of the island and facing the Malacca Strait, the Jambi Province boasts of a rich traditional history of different ethnic groups from the country. More than half of this area are still covered with forests and is a great place for the adventurous tourist who prefer the outdoors.
