Sail Wakatobi 2011 – District to use event to promote cultural heritage

One of the major events in the tourism calendar of Indonesia is the Sail Wakatobi-Beliung 2011. This is one of the most anticipated happenings of the year here which will involve a major international marine event. [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

According to the district head of Wakatobi, the district government and the locals there are gearing up and making all necessary preparations to ensure that the event is a successful one. This include the cultural attractions like the Kabuenga, the Bangka-Mbule-mbule and the Karia which are all set to provide the entertainment and awareness of the cultural heritage here.

For one, the Bangka Mbule-Mbule is a performance which will involve thousands of people and it will be at the welcoming party of the participants to the event while the traditional Kabuenga is an annual performance by adults to find their life partners. They have also asphalted the outer ring road of a 50 km radius in the district to make way for the event. Wakatobi is one of the most naturally rich coastal regions around where it is part of the world’s coral reef triangle canter and houses more than 940 types of fish species and 750 species of coral reefs. Meanwhile, Belitung Island is known for its pristine waters and beaches that include Tanjung Kiras beach, Tanjung Kubu, Gembira bay and many more.
