Manado at North Sulawesi
Manado is the capital city of Bunaken in North Sulawesi which is known very much for its rich biodiversity attractions. Inside the city is the Provincial Museum which houses 3 floors of exhibits where you will be able to learn about the local traditions and transport around here.
The Bendi is one of the highlights here which is a horse trap. It is still being used in present time. There are also a wide variety of artifacts made of ceramic that came from China, Japan and as far as Europe while the furniture used by some heroes of the country too are displayed here.
As it is very much a tourist destination, there are many places with interesting food and lodging too. But if you are here for the nightlife because there really are none apart from some cafes, pubs and karaoke centers. You should however head out to the seafood restaurants around here which serve Minahasan dishes. This tradition is diminishing so you will be lucky if you get to witness the war dance called Cakalele. The Maengket meanwhile is a bright and happy dance that originates from this community as well. The Ikan Tude is one of the traditional dishes here which is a type of fish cooked with some very spicy sauce.
