October13

Known as the biggest crater lake in Java island, this is where you get to enjoy the most spectacular views of nature ever. The sulfur crater lake is 200 meters deep and is known to contain about 36 million cubic meters of acid water. Apart from that fact that it is a lake it is also known to be a natural stone garden too.

There are sulfur miners climbing up and down the crater where they go up and collect up to 10 kilograms of sulfur stones and then climbs down the slope and this happen everyday. Located at the center of the Ijen-Merapi Malang Reserve, the Ijen Plateau can be seen very beautifully from air which you will notice when flying on either the Denpasar – Surabaya, Yogyakarta or Jakarta routes. This is where you will see the plateau, its turquoise crater lake in its utmost beauty.

You can reach the crater from both sides of the east and west where the latter requires a 3km jungle trekking effort which peculiarly is the more popular method. To visit the plateau, you would need to stay around in Banyuwangi in East Java where there are planned and guided tours around the scenic lakes and its beautiful surroundings.
