The various provinces found among the Indonesian geographical scope are all defined and commands their own set of culture and attractions.

As Indonesia is essentially made up of more than 18,000 islands, there are various common tourists attractions located at specific islands. One would have to take note of certain things when visiting the country.

Indonesia has long been a favourite tourist destination for its historical heritage and beach side resorts. To say the least, Bali has always been visited by tourists every year, especially during the year end until recently when terrorist bombings caused many to stay away. Visas for Tourists
Getting into indonesia requires certain tourists to apply for a tourist visa prior to entering the country. There are various way of getting into the country. One has to be aware of what are the options before flying over as there usually are visa on arrival services although not all entry points provide that.

Tourists are allowed to bring with them a maximum of 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100gm of tobacco products and 1 liter of alcohol. Drug trafficking is a mandatory death penalty in Indonesia.

Generally there are 3 ways to get into Indonesia. The first two type of visas, namely visa-free and visa-on-arrival, visitors must take note that only particular entry ports allow for such privileges. Other entry points will require a visa application prior to entry. Read the rest of this entry »

The Culture that is Indonesia

Formerly from the Majapahit empire which was highly influenced by the Hindu tradition are still being practiced in the culture that is Indonesia. These are extremely evident particularly in areas surrounding Java and Sumatra and also in Bali.
One distinct cultural practice is the Wayang Kulit (in English it means, Skin Show). This type of shadow puppetry mostly story telling the Mahabhrata and Ramayana stories for instance are often shown with the small Gamelan instruments. This type of shows are very much similar to the Malaysian version of the Wayang Kulit as well, although both have their own style and uniqueness and story lines.  Read the rest of this entry »

Indonesia  in the past has long been a trading country. During the early 7 th century, Indonesia  in its older nature being Sri Vijaya Empire has formed bilateral trade with superpowers like China . During those times, the governing religion of Hinduism was strong enough. Only in later centuries did Islam came into the country and thereby establishing a foothold among the locals.
Today, a majority of population in Indonesia are muslims although there is no such thing as an official religion. Indonesia gained its independence after the Second World War through the Dutch who was colonising the country then.
Very much alike Malaysia , Indonesia is integrated via its multi lingual and multi ethnicity. Hosting their own national motto called ‘Bhinneka Tunggal Ika’ which means Unity in Diversity, Indonesia ‘s most dominant ethinc group, the Javanese live in harmony among the other races like Chinese and Indians.
